Program Themes

To develop a program that best fits your needs, we ask you to choose a Program Theme for the camp; Rubicon staff will teach to the student learning outcomes as outlined. Your aims and the program theme will form a basis for discussion as to what activities best meet your aims.

Option A: Teamwork

The Rubicon Outdoor Centre Teamwork program emphasizes the value of teamwork in assisting group members achieve group and individual goals. This will be highlighted by the opportunity to reflect on these experiences.

Student Learning Outcomes include:

  • Learn the characteristics of members in an effective team.
  • Develop descriptions of and practice a variety of roles within the team.
  • Students accept responsibility as a team member and assist in achieving team goals.
  • Students reflect on individual and team outcomes and act to improve their own and the teams' performance.

 

Option B: Challenge

The Challenge program provides students with the opportunity to enhance their performance, mutual support and team skills in a learning environment that is both physically and emotionally supported.

Student Learning Outcomes include:

  1. Students identify their personal strengths and areas for improvement.
  2. Students set goals and justify choices made.
  3. Students develop a range of strategies to deal with challenges

 

Option C: Leadership

Our Leadership programs enable students to take on a variety of leadership roles; to reflect on the various leadership styles and learn to lead through experience. Students are able to experiment and explore aspects of leadership whilst operating in a supportive environment.

Student Learning Outcomes include:

  1. Understand the roles and responsibilities of leaders and the difference between leadership styles.
  2. Experience leadership skills and a variety of roles within the group.
  3. Communication skill improvement.

 

Option D: VCE, VET, VCAL, Duke of Ed

VCE programs: Please specify the VCE unit you are studying.

An outline of the students' prior experience and knowledge; other practical activities undertaken and supporting theory lessons that the students have studied would be appreciated.

VET and VCAL programs: an outline of the competencies to be covered during the Rubicon program needs to be forwarded prior to the program.

Duke of Education programs: The level of participation, eg Bronze, Silver, Gold needs to be specified and specific elements to be covered throughout the program need to be outlined.
