Rubicon offers a 3 hour introductory
session, covering the basic skills of horse riding. Students
learn how to mount, dismount, turn and stop their horse and
how to walk, trot and canter. The horses used are carefully
matched to the students' riding ability to promote maximum
enjoyment and learning.
All students, even experienced riders, can find an appropriate
level of challenge and enjoyment.
The session is conducted by the Rubicon teaching staff at
a riding school close to Rubicon. The school’s chosen
program focus (teamwork, leadership or challenge) is integrated
into the horse riding session content through language, small
activities and reflection.
For Challenge students will work on a personal goal as well
as a group goal for example all horses maintaining space
to avoid conflict issues between horses.
A Leadership focus allows students to understand Leadership
styles and practise being autocratic as it is essential to
control the horse during their session.
During a Teamwork program students can reflect on their contribution
during the session and their impact on others in their team.
Riding boots, helmets and saddlebags are provided. Clothing
is advised to be loose fitting and comfortable. Gentlemen
(and boys) are advised to NOT wear boxer shorts.
Permission Form This form must be completed by all Staff and Students
intending to Horseride.
